The Spirit of Giving Back
The spirit of volunteerism and generosity is alive and well, even if it looks a little different during these unusual circumstances. Keenan employees have enthusiastically maintained their tradition of giving back to the community during the coronavirus pandemic, adapting safely to the challenges.
The economic impact of the pandemic hit many people severely in 2020, from job loss, the threat of homelessness and food insecurity. So many of our associates were in a position to help alleviate some of this distress both through financial contributions and in direct actions from their homes or with local aid agencies. By participating in the charitable campaigns held companywide, our associates contributed $42,349 to help those in need. The response of all these individuals exceeded expectations and the matching funds from the company brought the total to $64,099!
Causes supported by these campaigns included:
- Feeding Children Everywhere, an organization committed to eliminating childhood hunger, tragically affecting more than 1 in 5 children in the U.S.
- California Community Foundation’s Wildfire Relief Fund, supporting individuals and communities affected by the devastating fire disasters throughout California.
- Covenant House, which has worked to save kids from homelessness, abuse and trafficking for more than 40 years.
- Toys for Tots, a project operated by the United States Marine Corps Reserve, helps make the holidays a happier time for children in need nationwide.
Our associates shine even more brightly when they give back by the hands-on projects they choose to get involved in on their own. Motivated by their sense of connection with their communities, Keenan employees took part individually – either from home or at safe, socially-distanced events locally – to make a difference:
- Packing bags of food and other groceries through Food Finders.
- Distributing bags of food through the Orangevale Food Bank and Family Assistance Ministries
- Assisting at a Book Sale as well helping as poll workers for the 2020 General Election, at the Arden-Dimick Public Library.
- Helping organize new donations at their warehouse and furnish and decorate an apartment for a former foster youth through A Sense of Home.
- Writing cards and recording video greetings, songs and other bits of entertainment for the senior residents at the Motion Picture & Television Fund.
- Meeting up with and transporting rescue dogs for the Southern California Golden Retriever Rescue.
- Mentoring a middle school or high school student with Los Angeles Team Mentoring and Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Inland Empire.
The past year has been difficult for everyone, but we are very proud of our associates who worked so hard to bring more light into many of those dark days. All the while, they continued to support our clients and their employees and adapt to working in new and creative ways. Both on the business side and in our corporate social responsibility efforts, Keenan associates showed their spirit by finding innovative solutions dedicated to our enduring principles. Thank you for making a difference in all you do!
